Beaver Springs Fishing Park has found a new sidelight that harmonizes with its fishing park and horseback riding stable enterprises-a Public Aquarium exhibit. The Aquarium exhibit is in a new building 32 x 90 feet and has more than 50 species of fish in about 10 display tanks and ponds.
Construction started in March 1997. The Beaver Springs Public Aquarium exhibits opened three weeks ago but is still in transition, with more exhibits to be added and remodeling yet to be done.
Beaver Springs Public Aquarium is the only private facility in Wisconsin that has lake sturgeon. You can’t buy these in Wisconsin, it is illegal, so Beaver Springs Public Aquarium received permission from the Department of Natural Resources approval to buy and display lake sturgeon. The lake sturgeon featured at the Beaver Springs Public Aquarium came from the Department of Ministry in Canada.
University and state researchers are concerned the population of lake sturgeon may decline to almost nothing because the fish take so long to mature enough to repopulate the species.
Golden trout, which also required DNR approval, have been popular so far with visitors to the exhibit. Open All Year Round! Wisconsin Dells!
